AdAge reports that the May edition of Wired’s iPad app will be free for 30 days from today, thanks to a sponsorship deal with Adobe. The app has also just been updated with readers now having the ability to post links to Wired features on their Facebook and Twitter accounts, including those that have yet to appear on the Wired website, or are exclusive to the app. When someone clicks on the links, they will be taken to a special web page and encouraged to download the issue.
The first edition of Wired’s iPad app, which was one of the first iPad magazines to be released, had over 105,000 downloads, but publisher Conde Nast still feels that it can be improved even further, with Mittman telling AdAge that the magazine’s social experience still needs work:“In a lot of ways we’ve been much more focused on building a better app in the last year than talking about it,†Howard Mittman, VP-publisher at Wired, told AdAge. “Now it’s time for us to come back out and say look at these investments.â€
“Social’ is real interactive, comment-able experiences, so that user feedback and feedback from our community creates a two-way or three-way conversation between the users and between the users and us. When we crack that code, which is our endgame, that’s when community happens.â€
