Wi Fi Sync issue

I have an iPad 1 and sync with my Win 7 Laptop using the USB Cable. I recently 'upgraded' the iPad firmware to v5.0. I am now unable to sync using the USB cable. I have tried the Wi Fi Sync but prefer the cable method. Please could someone advise how to fix this issue. I have tried turning off the wi fi sync setting in iTunes but still unable to sync using the USB cable!
