Why is my battery dying when my IPAD is off?

Ive been noticing that when I wake up in the morning, my IPAD has lost a significant amount of power, even though its been off.
Further, I have all sounds turned off.

Could it be the home screen notifications? If so, doesn't the screen only turn on when I open the smart cover?

Your thoughts/help are appreciated.

Do you have push notifications and email turned on? If you get a lot of notifications and emails while the iPad is asleep, it will be waking up frequently to download this emails and notifications. This might explain your overnight battery drain.

Very possible.
Where would/could I trun "push notifications" off and what do you mean by "email turned on"?

Apologies but I am not the most savvy person when it comes to this stuff...

I meant having email pushed to your device rather than fetching it manually.
To turn off push updates for mail go to Settings>Mail Contacts Calendars>Fetch New Data and turn push off. You can also leave push on and individually select how to get new emails separately for each email account.

For notifications you have to go to settings and scroll down to the desired app, tap on it and decide what kind of notifications you wish to receive or whether or not to turn off all notifications for that app.
