Using apps at the same time

I'm sure it's glaringly obvious but...how can I play music in YouTube on my iPad2 whilst using another app!? At present if I am watching something on YouTube but need to do something else on the iPad it stops playing as soon as I press the home button to exit. I'm very new to the iPad so forgive me if this is a painfully stupid question

The only way I can think of would be first to have a Jailbroken iPad then you could use either CardSwitcher or Quasar.

Perhaps other members know of other ways?
