I have recently added to my Contacts list in Outlook on my PC but they are not being transferred to my iPad when I sync. I have ticked the appropriate box in iTunes "info" and then syncing but still not receiving the contact updates on my iPad. What am I doing wrong?

Cheers,

Hi again!

I assume you've set up your Outlook account on your iPad as well, which is necessary to sync contacts to it. Then go to Settings - Mails, Contacts, Calendars, tap the account and make sure that "Contacts" is enabled:

Now close Settings, go to Contacts (app) and open it. If it doesn't start to sync as soon as you open the app, tap "Groups" (upper left corner):

The next page will show all your accounts that sync to the app, and an arrow at the bottom, to the left.

Tap it to start syncing manually.
Then tap "Done" (red ribbon, to the right) to get back to your contacts. Your newly added contacts should be there.
One more thing you could check: in Contacts, on the page with the sync arrow, all accounts should have a check mark, so they will appear in the app (unlike my screenshot).

Hi Joanna,

Thanks for your prompt response and clear instructions. When you say "I assume you've set up your Outlook account on your iPad as well", I have previously set up my email address in the Accounts section which has the sub-text, Contacts, Calendars etc. When I click on this it goes to an iCloud sub-page where I have Contacts "on". I have carried out the rest of your procedure but it's still not updating my Outlook contacts (my original contacts are all there).

It looks like I will have to manually put in the new contacts in my iPad.

Why do Apple make it so difficult?

Regards,

Grant

It shouldn't be difficult. While explaining all the steps to you, I created a fake contact in my Outlook account (browser) and synced it to my iPad Contacts app the way I described to you. It should work.

I'm trying to find out how your contacts are synced to your iPad:
When you say that you've set up your email address, it's the Outlook address, like yournameorsomethingelse@ outlook.com, I hope.
When I tap the account to see my settings in Settings - Mails, Contacts, Calendars, I can't tap "Contacts" to get me somewhere else. That's what makes me wonder if we're talking about the same.

To view my Outlook account, I have to tap here:

Then I see this:

(My first screenshot in my previous post) I can enable or disable Contacts here, nothing else. It doesn't lead me to an iCloud sub-page.

Another thought: in Contacts (app):

Do you find this:

Hi Joanna,

Many thanks for your reply. I believe the problem is I did not have an outlook.com account as such. When I went to the outlook.com site I signed in using my Microsoft user name and password and was informed that I now have an Outlook email account! but I don't know the address etc. very confusing! Nor do I have the Outlook account in the Accounts listing on my iPad like you show in your reply above. Sorry to burden you further but I'm really confused. I'm off to the UK on Sunday and was hoping to get this finalised before I go.

Cheers,

Grant

No problem! I hope we're able to solve this soon.
I had a Live account, before it was changed to Outlook. Mine was firstname.lastname @ live.at and changed to firstname.lastname @ outlook.com. Perhaps it's the same with yours? Do you ever sign in through your browser, and if so, do you still use your former email address? If you didn't change the password, it's still the same as before. You also could find out your email address when you look at your emails you get to that account.

Open an email, then tap "Details"

Either it will show your email address, or your name turns blue, and you just have to tap your blue name to see the email account the mail was sent to.

If you know your email address, you're able to set up an Outlook account, and your contacts should sync to your iPad through it.

Another possibilty: use a program like "Copy Trans Contacts" on your computer. It will help you transfer Outlook contacts to iCloud, if you prefer it this way.
