AppleInsider reports today on tests that have been carried out on the newest version of the iPad 2, which has been fitted with a 32nm-process A5 chip. According to the tests, which were carried out by Anandtech, the new chip improves the battery life of the newest version of the iPad 2 by as much as 15.8%. The first iteration of the iPad 2 used a Samsung-built 45nm-process A5 chip, and it would seem that some of (and I stress the some of) the newly discounted iPad 2s, known as the iPad 2, 4, which Apple is now selling for $399 for the 16GB version, have benefited greatly from a chip revamp. However, if you’re setting out specifically to buy one of the newer versions of the iPad 2 with the new chip, Anandtech warns that the older versions are also still on the shelves at retailers, and there’s no way of knowing which is which without opening the box. Anandtech also says that the newer versions are “relatively rareâ€, so you might just have to put it down to pot luck whether or not you get one of the newer versions.
