Synching Contacts

Hi,

I've just bought myself an iPad2 and given my original iPad to my wife. I have successfully set up her email accounts and transferred books, pdfs & photos but I am having trouble finding a way to get her Contacts over from her Win7 comp. I have selected Sync Contacts in iTunes running on her comp. but Backup / Sync runs then finishes with a message saying something like "backup couldn't complete because the iPad had been disconnected" - which is not true. The first time I tried it it managed to remove all my contacts from the iPad but I cannot get hers on to it. She is using Windows Live Mail. Any advice would be most welcome.

Update

I've got around this problem by exporting the contacts from Win Live Mail to .csv file and then importing into Google Mail Contacts from where iTunes syched them quite happily. I guess I'm a victim of the fabled Apple / Microsoft war. Anyway it's done and working and the wife's happy, so I am.
