Problem with home button

My new iPad home button not functioning well.. Sometimes I need to press hardly to make it work. It's normal?

Sorry for your problem. That may be already a hardware problem involving your home button. A workaround for this is going to Settings > General > Accessibility > Assistive touch ON. This puts a virtual home button on your ipad screen, and allows you to have home button functions (and more) without using your hardware home button. Works great for me, and I get to press the hardware home button very rarely, only when I have to wake the ipad up.
