Printing directly to wifi printer using airplay

Can I print to a stand alone wifi printer with no other network? airplay works fine when I am home with a home network; when I travel for extended periods, I would like to take a printer with me!!

You need something to assign IP addresses - usually a wireless router, even if it's not connected to the Internet.
