Sony wants its PlayStation gaming console to be the central media hub for all of your entertainment needs. The company's latest effort in this direction is PlayStation Vue, a new cloud-based TV service that seeks to reinvent the television experience. Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, said the following about the new product:

"Everyday TV is about to become extraordinary with our new cloud-based TV service, PlayStation™Vue. PlayStation™Vue reinvents the traditional viewing experience so your programming effortlessly finds you, enabling you to watch much more of what you want and search a lot less. PlayStation™Vue brings the best of live TV and a robust catalog of the latest content, always keeping you connected to what's popular, new and trending. Today's announcement builds on the historic success of PlayStation®4 and demonstrates what our company is capable of when we embrace disruption and stay true to gamers."

The recently unveiled PlayStation Vue TV streaming service from Sony is set to launch this month on its gaming consoles, but will make its way onto Apple's iPad in early 2015, as well.

Sony has lined up a considerable number of networks for its new service, which will offer around 75 channels per market during its beta period. Some of the most notorious partners include CBS, Discovery, Fox, NBC Universal, and Viacom.

Stations offered through PlayStation Vue include Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, FX, Fox Sports 1, Bravo, CNBC, E, NBC Sports Network, HGTV, Food Network, Travel Channel, BET, CMT, Comedy Central, MTV, and Nickelodeon.

The service will be contract-free, offered on a month-to-month basis, and there will be no equipment or installation charges needed like it's the case with many cable providers. The content will be available both live and on-demand, and will not require a cable or satellite service subscription.

I am so loving the options we have for watching content now. We cut the cable cord about 7 years ago and things keep getting better and better. Between Netflix, Hulu, our own disc library and the trusty roof antenna, we have more to watch than ever before and don't have that obnoxious cable bill each month. HBO is going to offer its own service and it appears that other content providers are getting on board. This is great news.

Too bad the satellite and cable companies couldn't figure out some type of ala carte system or reduced package prices. They will continue to lose customers as they have been for years now. Oh well. We told them what we wanted and they didn't listen. Sorry.
