play ipad movies on tv

I'll bet this has been answered before, but I tried a forum search and didn't find anything.

So - is there a way - or special cable etc that is needed to play a movie on the ipad and see it on tv?

Yes, you need to buy the apple video adpater Apple Digital AV Adapter - Apple Store (U.S.)

You can get an Apple TV for 99$. Much better than being hooked to the tv via a cable. AirPlay streaming is just amazing...

The av adapter uses component cables. Not as good as hdmi.

The adapter I have was released with the iPad 2 and is HDMI, however you are better off with apple TV

If the tv has hdmi input yes.

The av adapter uses component cables. Not as good as hdmi.
