I forgot my ipad password how can I retrieve it?

I'm afraid there is no way. You will need to completely restore your iPad. Several Forum members have had the same problem and it's generally agreed that you simply cannot retrieve or bypass the password.
If you're not sure how to restore (completely reset to its original, as purchased, configuration) then post again. Good news is that the Apple App Store remembers the apps that you've purchased and you can re-install them again at no cost. Bad news is that any documents, photos etc that you've got on your iPad will be lost unless you backed them up somehow - say, iTunes.
