I just got my iPad today. I have reset it and played with the general settings. Nothing i have done has worked. I still have no sound. When I got to general sound settings I can hear the demo of notifications but that's it. So then I decided to plug in headphones to see if I could hear anything. And I could. All sound worked. Please someone tell me how to fix this so I don't have to use headphones.

Thanks for any and all help.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

You haven't inadvertently turned on the mute button have you, it's the little switch just above the sound control.
Also look at the control which is found when you bring up your multi task bar. Do the 4 finger swipe up or double press the home button and you will see your multi task bar along the bottom, swipe right as far as you can go and you will see a volume control slide here. Let us know if that was it.

It won't let you change it? That's very strange. I think a restart and or reset is in order here.
Restart: Press and hold the power off button, the one at the top right. You will see a slide appear to power off, slide this and the screen will go dark and a Whirly will appear. When the Whirly disappears your iPad is now off. Press the power button again until the Apple logo appears, this will take a few seconds and your iPad will restart. You should restart your iPad occasionally also as it will keep it running well. Now see if it is operating. If not a reset is the next step.

Reset: Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you will see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start. This is a reset.

Let us know how it goes.
