Welcome to the forum!

Since you do not have your PC-can you at some point try to use a friend's? I am just thinking if you could email your pictures to yourself, so at least you have a copy to upload to a computer when you have access to it than transfer it to a memory card. I do not think that what you are asking is possible, unless somebody else know's a way. :)

I was advised that I would no longer needed a pc when purchasing the iPad, so I sold it to fund the purchase. Luckily I was able to connect to iTunes to start up the iPad via a friends.

I think the only way would to would be by using a computer.

By memory card do you mean a USB drive?

I would take that advice with some hesitation. The iPad is really not a substitute for a laptop or pc, for the majority of people. You have just experienced why you still need a computer for activities such as this. Sure there are always work arounds, but may be inconvenient at times as such with pictures, music upload etc.

Hm, for work. Means there is probably computer at work. No, I don't mean you have to connect the iPad to the computer.

Get a free DropBox account, and get the app on the iPad. Use the app to upload the pictures to DropBox.

Now go to the computer at work and sign into your DropBox account in a browser (no need to install anything), and download the pictures on the computer. If you are willing to spend a little money, get the GoodReader app. Then you will be able to connect to your DropBox account, select and upload several pictures at once.

There are several other cloud services, including Box.com that you can use the same way.

When people say they only need the iPad, it is usually because they've gotten around the need for physical media by using the cloud.

I hope this is a solution you can use.
