I got a new iPad 3 yesterday and its been dodgy from the outset.

I have tried to restore the iPad several times. During the process, everything seems to be going fine until I get the message in itunes that the unit will reboot in 10 seconds. At this stage the ipad does nothing. I have to hold home and power buttons for 10 seconds or so for the ipad to switch. After this it looks like the restore was successful.

My question is, does the fact that it doesnt reboot itself indicate there is a problem?

The reason I have been doing restores is sometimes the ipad wont wake up, I can use it for a while with no issues but then it will just fail to wake up for no reason. Its then a case of trial and error to get it working. Connecting the USB lead and holding power and home buttons in various comobs eventually turns it back on.

Is the ipad goosed?

If you just got the iPad3 and are having problems with it working properly - my suggestion is to take it back to the Apple Store. No sense in driving yourself crazy trying to fix a wonky iPad when the store would most likely replace it.

Save yourself some aggravation... :)

Realize that I can't speak for Apple, but - they should. An Apple product is an Apple product and is you are having issues with it, then you can take it to the Apple Store for assistance. They don't care where you got it.

Now, they may not replace it. But - they sure will help you get it running right if they don't. So, there's no way to lose in taking the iPad3 to the Apple store. They'll either fix it or replace it.
