I'm a new iPad owner. Replaced my first unit as it had charging problems which Apple stood behind, thank God. New one charges ok. However, the Safari Browser has locked up and I can't seem to find out how to force close it like I can my iMac 27. BTW, I have been using MS products for over decade so have had to enter a new world. Any advice for an Apple Novice will be appreciated!

Thanx,

Ron Bartels, Ph.D., aka; Ronomundo

Someone else gave me a fix for this on another forum, so I thought I would pass it along as it worked for me with a locked up Safari Bowser on my new iPad. Press and hold the sleep button until the red off slider appears but instead of using the slider, as I had been instructed to do by others to provide a soft reboot, I pressed and held the sleep button until the systen reset back at the desktop. Now, it works!

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

I'm glad you got your issue rectified and thanks for letting us know how you achieved it by way of a reset.

We do recommend 3 steps to rectify a problem and in this order. Have a look after each step if it has made a difference.

1. Close your app completely....I feel that this would have solved your problem with Safari freezing. When an app behaves strangely it is best to close it completely and then relaunch it. From the home screen do the four finger swipe up or double press the home button to reveal your multi task bar. These are all the apps that you have opened at one time. Long press the app until it jiggles and a red minus sign will appear above it. Press the minus sign, this will close the app, not delete it, now press the home button to return to your screen. It's also a good idea to close all these apps, as it helps the iPad run smoothly

2. A restart - Press and hold the power off button, the one at the top right. You will see a slide appear to power off, slide this and the screen will go dark and a Whirly will appear. When the Whirly disappears your iPad is now off. Press the power button again until the Apple logo appears, this will take a few seconds and your iPad will restart. You should restart your iPad occasionally also as it will keep it running well.

3. A reset - Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you will see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start.

Just a little info for future problems you may run into.
