Hi -- started my "computing" career with Apple IIe's a hundred years ago, working as a transcriber for court reporters. Moved over to Microsoft when that job ended and am trying to decide if an ipad is a good fit at this point. Looking for an e-reader, entertainment base -- and more importantly, to help a member of my family who's losing his vision. Suggestions for apps for that purpose would be greatly appreciated - and which ipad would be best.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

I have heard the new iPad is much better with vision needs because of the Retina screen, text is more crisper. The iPad does have a Zoom setting which you can use on any screen and there is the ability to zoom in on text to make it larger. There is also a setting to make text much larger for email, contacts, calendar, messages and notes and there is also a setting to select text and have it read to you. The Kindle app for books has settings to increase text size substantially. I suggest you go to an Apple store or other outlet and have a rep show you these options and see for yourself if it is suitable. I have heard there are apps but sorry I'm not aware of what these are, hopefully other members will know.
