The iPhone 5s is here, along with the “cheaper” iPhone 5c, and now we’re anxiously waiting for Apple’s next duo to make its debut: the iPad 5 and the iPad Mini 2. A new recently discovered patent filed by Apple suggests that the next iPad could come equipped with a much needed anti-reflective screen.

Frankly, nowadays, this is one of the biggest issues owners of smartphones and tablets have to face. Using your iPad outdoors, with direct exposure to the sunlight becomes quite a problem. As always, Apple wants to be the first pioneer to come up with a solution for this. Jack Purcher from Patently Apple has managed to dig up an Apple patent application titled “UV Mask with Anti-Reflection Coating and UV Absorption Material”. The patent filing was recently published by the US Patent and Trademark Office.

This UV Mask would work like an anti-reflective film that could be added even to next iPad’s screen, as this doesn’t seem like a technology that needs years to mature. This film’s direct effect will be to reduce the glare when used outside.

Of course, there currently are third-party anti-glare products that you can use with your iPad or iPhone, but Apple could gain the love of consumers and probably the confidence of investors if they decide to deploy this technology with the next iPads. Who knows, maybe Apple is also thinking of embedding this magical UV Mask into their elusive iWatch?

What do you think - should this patent be treated with a grain of salt or there are big chances we’re going to see it in the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2? An anti-reflective display is definitely one of the features a tablet like the iPad needs to have to still be in command of a rapidly growing market.
