I am a semi-retired Electronic Development Engineer. I bought a iPad3 for it's abilty to show sharp videos and picture and also to track my favorite pastime of walking around my local country side. Since I upgraded to iOS6 I am upset that the detailed satellite images of my area are now so blurred that they are efectively useless. I would like to revert to the original OS that came with the new iPad. Is this possible?

Unfortunately, no, you can't revert back to a prior iOS. Apple only approves installation of the most current iOS for a particular iDevice. The only things to do are (1) hope Apple fixes it ASAP, (2) hope Google comes out with its own app or (3) get another map from the App Store.

Sorry.

You can go to maps.google.com and it will ask you if you want to add an icon for it to your desktop. If it doesn't ask, clickthe arrow at the left of the website address and it should be one of your choices.

You might find the MotionX GPS HD app to be to your taste. It has a slew of features congenial to walking around, and you can select your map sources; Bing and Google being the primary ones, but not the only choices.

Thanks Marilyn, It's a pity that my area (Hertforshire, England) is so blurry on satellite pictures. The 3D equivalent of London is stunning. Are well, I guess I'll have to wait or buy a similar App. Once again Thanks, Bruce

Thanks, I did that and I now get sharp satellite pictures again. Great! Unfortunately, I don't seem to able to get street view. Unless you know better. Cheers, Bruce

Unfortunately, Street View is gone in the iOS 6 Apple Map app. When I googled "street view" I found two apps that might work. They both are $.99 (USD) although they also both have a Lite version so you can check to see how they work for you. They are: "StreetViewer" and "Live Street View."

Note that I've not tried either - but that's what I see is out there.

Just saw an article. Apparently Garmin has updated it's app with public transit directions and Google Street View. I wonder if they've been laying in wait, or their developers have been working late hours.

Not the cheapest solution, but you're looking for offline navigation too, it might be the ticket.
