Initially I thought this new iOS game was a remake of the classic SNES and Amiga game first released in 1992, but that game featured three Lost Vikings, Erik, Baleog, and Olaf, and was more of an adventure game. Lost Viking features just one Viking, and his name is Ragnar.

He does certainly resemble Erik, Baleog, and Ragnar, but that’s where the similarities end, as Pocket Gamer reports that Lost Viking is in fact an RPG matching game with “Threes”-style gameplay, only in this case, instead of numbers, you’re sliding tiles featuring objects of (presumably!) interest to a Viking, such as legs of ham and broadswords and suchlike.

When you slide a tile with the same picture into another one of the same type, they join together, then the more tiles you add to each other the higher the number displayed on screen.

Once you’ve used up all your moves each turn, your highest-numbered tile goes up against that of your opponent, and you’ll see the results in the screen at the top, displayed in animated form.

The various items depicted on the tiles also have different functions, with the meat healing you, and keys unlocking chests.

It may not be the classic Lost Vikings game of yore, but it still looks like a lot of fun.
