Is it possible to use one of the free or independant comic readers in the iTunes store and then download digital comics that I already own on my computer and transfer them into the iPad to read? And if possible, how is it done?

What format are the comics that you already own? If they're proprietary then it may be a problem, but if they're in a common format, there'd be no issue. If you can post some more details I'm sure someone would be able to help.

OK - you’ll have seen the reviews....

Top Five iPad Comic-Book Apps Reviewed | Gadget Lab | Wired.com

You can upload the files from your PC using the third-party app ‘GoodReader’, which is the iPad’s ‘Swiss Army Knife’. ‘GoodReader’ can transfer *any* file from your PC or Mac to the iPad via either WiFi or USB. It has a comprehensive file management system allowing you to organise your files in folders etc. You’ll see, if you look in the App Store, that ‘GoodReader’ is universally acclaimed by iPad users and is frequently voted the top ‘must have’ app. It is well supported, very reasonably priced, frequently updated by the Developer (always a good sign).

Once your comics are in GoodReader and you have your chosen reader app loaded, you can use the ‘File Management’ function in ‘GoodReader’ to ‘Open With’ and you’re ‘good to go’.

Enjoy your iPad and don’t hesitate to get back in touch if you have any other questions or problems. We all love the iPad here, so it’s fun talking to other iPad users and hearing their experiences....
