No i just didnt have my itunes account authorized on my laptop. Problem solved... Next question. Is there a certain itunes i should use when updating and jailbreaking my ipad?

Should be fine - most people have went from 3.2 jb to 4.2 fine - some have had to restore to factory 4.2 first - FYI

I would just jb - only restore to factory if you have problems - save some time possibly.
