We mentioned a couple of times in the past that one of Apple's top priorities is the expansion of its global reach and with every new announcement coming out of Cupertino, we realized that Tim Cook and his team couldn't be more serious. If you're reading this from Japan and have lusted for the iPad Air and iPad Mini 2 since its launch, we have some great news for you - they're coming to NTT DOCOMO, Japan's largest carrier, on June 10. Here's Apple's official announcement:

NTT DOCOMO and Apple® today announced that iPad Air™ and iPad mini™ with Retina® display will be available on the DOCOMO network beginning on Tuesday, June 10. iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display offer the power and capability of the A7 chip, advanced graphics on a Retina display, and high-speed LTE performance, making everything you do faster and better, all while delivering all-day battery life.

Kaoru Kato, President and CEO of NTT DOCOMO expressed his views, as well:

With the addition of iPad alongside iPhone, we now offer the complete lineup of Japan’s most popular mobile devices on the nation’s most reliable LTE network. We know our customers will enjoy using iPad Air and iPad mini, and anticipate that new customers will look to experience these amazing devices on our high-quality network with our new billing plan.

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO weighed in, too:

We are extremely happy for iPad to join iPhone on NTT DOCOMO’s network. The results on iPhone have been tremendous, and we look forward to delivering iPad to NTT DOCOMO customers.

Japanese customers will be able to make use of Docomo's nationwide ultra-fast Xi LTE communications service and from June 2, they will be able to pre-register for iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display at DOCOMO dealers and DOCOMO’s website. The iPhone has proved to be a huge success and since then, Japanese users have been waiting for the iPad to get officially launched, as well. The carrier said that only now has the iPad been launched because they just weren't ready before:

Quite simply we have been considering to have the iPad ready for our network, and it took a little time to prepare for the launch. We have been getting requests from our customers that they want to use iPad on DOCOMO’s network, so we are happy that we can now offer it to our customers.
