I'll download all 1,000+ songs on my iPad from iCloud. The problem is that they start to mysteriously disappear. Not all at once but a few here and there. Anyone else experience this?
That's what iTunes Match does. When space gets a bit cramped it will remove older songs that have not been played in a long time. This article may help.

That explains it. I was thinking that if you choose "download" that the song would remain in your device. Hope they add an option to disable this as I like having my entire music library on my device at all times.
I'm not sure, but I think if you download the song through iTunes (on the iPad) or sync it from iTunes on the computer then it is immune to the delete. It's only when you select it in the Music app that it's buffered (only semi-permanent).
I don't use iTunes Match, so I could easily be wrong; but it might be worth trying.
