"Following the completion of intensive technical scrutiny, Israel Minister of Communications Moshe Kakhlon approved the import of (the) iPad to Israel," the Communications Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry had banned importation of the touchscreen devices saying they did not meet European standards, adopted by Israel, for wireless use of communications frequencies.
The ministry said its technical team in the past week consulted with Apple Inc, a recognized international laboratory and European counterparts and determined the device could be operated in Israel according to locally followed standards.

The tests proved the device identifies the Wi-fi access point in its surroundings and adjusts itself automatically, enabling the iPad to be operated without interfering with other wireless devices, the ministry said.

"Accordingly, the import of a single device per person will be permitted commencing Sunday, April 25th," the ministry said.
The ministry also ordered the release of 20 iPads that had been confiscated.

And now all is well in the land of Zion. The magical ipad will bring peace, harmony, and good will to all the world...oh and iTunes store too!

If it really had anything to do with euro standards why are they the only country that had a problem?

This is a very valid question. Every country handles things differently. Maybe they thought that the 20 iPads that were seized at customs were some kind of linked terrorist plot. You need to remember that those people are surrounded by others who want to kill them. So you can't really blame them for being paranoid.

I expect it was a simple issue of politics. The sole source for Apple in Israel wanted to not lose any business, but then they had to bow to the huge number of israelis that make a living writing apps and making accessories.

That is a relief as I am traveling to Israel in October and would like use my iPad on the plane.:)

i could have not said it better . for they live in the total belief that the whole area is out to push them back into the sea..

they go to Massda when enlisting into Isreal Defense Force to make sure you understand the reason behind the beliefs and ideas of the the state of Isreal ..
