Hi just wondering if anyone knows why my iPhone will charge through my car stereo but not my ipad mini. It obviously the same voltage because you can use the same socket transformer and just change the USB cord so I don't understand why :/ thanks guys

It's hit and miss with car chargers. Some supply enough power, others don't.

It's likely because the iPad mini has a larger battery than the iPhone, requiring more power to charge properly than your car charger can supply. Your iPad will charge, but at a much slower rate.

The issue is the amperage involved. iPhone can charge at an amperage as low as .25. The iPad Mini, if memory serves wants a minimum of .5 amperage. Your car stereo is probably putting out .4 amps or below to comply with the older USB 1.X and 2.0 standard.
