iPad is stuck in DFU mode or Recovery..

Itunes cannot detect my ipad.. Windows xp recognises the ipad, even in dfu mode and recovery. The usb cable is fine.. Even redsn0w couldn't detect my ipad.. My iPad is jailbroken, simply because I wanted vlc player on my iPad and iFile. I really need my ipad atm, since it has tonnes of my coursework on it for my GCSEs. Luckily, I have back ups-.-

I'm using redsn0w 0.9.9b7. Is that the more recent one? I haven't got access to my original computer atm, since I'm on holidays.. My iPad is iOS 5.0(me thinks.. I can't check since my ipad is blaaah)
I know it's a simple fix, I need to boot tether it.. But... Redsn0w can't detect it-.-

I'm using windows xp, other than my usual windows vista(ewww)

My usb cable is a little wrecked but I'm guessing it's not the problem because xp is all 'LWK WE FUND A NEWH DEVAAAICE!!! WUNT 2 INSTALL EYT??!?!' So, I clicked yes once in the sheer hopes it might fix it(not likely) and then xp was all 'LOLnaaaaah, 4get bout 4pple bruh'

Never mind, I asked someone if I could quickly borrow their laptop and install redsn0w. They agreed. As soon as I plugged my ipad in redsn0w was all ' UP UP AND AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY' ipad is now booted. It was definitely le netbook being a prat.
