ipad in academic research

I plan to get a new ipad in the next couple of weeks. My plan is to use it to read and refer to PDF files of journal publications. I see that Endnote is planning a Ipad app and can see using evernote for note-taking.

I do use a PC for most of my work, so I need to be able to transfer and sync files.

Any other pointers?

Hi avoider03! Don't mean to sound like an advertisement, but since you asked, I think I should tell you that something that does exactly what you want is already available. The program is Mendeley. It's custom built for aacdemic research and supports note-taking and syncing with multiple computers. The reason I mention it here is that they've just released an ipad app, and it's free.

Thanks - I did try Mendeley. It looks really great, but is not able to load the number of references I have. I was able to load them into iAnnotate PDF. This program allows search and annotation of PDFs, but isn't nearly as powerful as Mendeley.

I tested Mendeley on my iPad and wish it would keep my hierarchical collections as I use them on my PC. I also wish I could use highlighting on the iPad. The idea to syn across devices per se is what would make life a lot easier. On the PC, I think Mendeley for desktop is a killer app. Wish it would work identically on iPad and one day on Android.
