My wife has had her Ipad for nearly a year. We're just senior citizens with a tech bent.

She recently accepted the upgrade from version 4 to version 5 of the OS and let it be installed on her unit. Now the downloads have slowed to a crawl. Namely her THE DAILY and other electronic newspapers are taking many minutes to download instead of a few seconds as before. The most recent update to the OS 5 did not help. Is anyone else having this problem? Frankly she would just as soon go back to the OS 4 than put up with these new problems. Everything was working just fine.

Frankly I don't even know if this is where we can get any help or suggestions for her. I have spent an entire evening trying to find an access to Apple where I can ask these simple questions. The problem is with Apples OS not a problem with her hardware. But they want money for everything.

Last resort for us here. Any suggestions would be much welcomed. Thank you in advance.

Hi Hpm...there has been some current threads regarding how slow the iPad (1) has become since the current update to os5. Sorry you are having this problem. I have the iPad 2 and have not experienced the lag that some are complaining of. You might want to try powering off your wife's iPad to see if that may fix the app. If not, using the search tool may help to see what others have done to help resolve or work around the problem.
Unfortunately, your wife cannot revert back to the previous operating system. Have you updated the most current 5.01? This came out last week.
Go to settings/about/ updates...to see if you can receive over the air (Ota).
Hope that helps, good luck!!

In the search box, type in "iPad slower after ios5 update."

This thread will give you insight to what is going on.

Hi and Welcome to the Forum!

I'm sorry to hear you are having these problems. Did you do a reset after the update? Try these steps.

Do the four finger swipe up to reveal your multi task bar along the bottom. It will show all the apps that you have opened at one time or another. Long press one of these apps until they start to jiggle and red minus signs will appear above them all. Press all the minus signs, this will close them, not delete them. It's a good idea to do this regularly just to keep them all running smoothly, I do mine every night. Check and see if it is operating now., if not a restart is in order.

Restart: Press and hold the power off button, the one at the top right. You will see a slide appear to power off, slide this and the screen will go dark and a Whirly will appear. When the Whirly disappears your iPad is now off. Press the power button again until the Apple logo appears, this will take a few seconds and your iPad will start again. You should restart your iPad occasionally also as it will keep it running smoothly. Now see if it is operating. If not a reset is the next step.

Reset: Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you will see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start. This is a reset.

When your iPad begins to behave strangely these are the first steps you should do to rectify it. Let us know how you go, good luck!!

Hi there and welcome.

This may be worth a try, go to Settings> Wifi then pick your router/network and choose to forget it. Now reboot your router. Next, once the router has rebooted, hold the on/off button on your iPad until the slider appears and slide to off. Restart you iPad and sign into your router/network and see if the problem is resolved. If it persists then please let us know.

There is lots of good advice and info on here plus plenty of members all too willing to help with any problems.
