IPad and Apple TV

Does anyone know if the IPad can stream to the Apple TV without a network. In other words, if I bring both to a cottage without wifi can they still work together.

No, you have to have a wi-fi network. But you could bring a third device, a wi-fi router, and create that network. Internet is not required, just a local network.

Or maybe just buy a VGA output so you won't need the apple tv or any network...

The iPad can do everything that Apple tv does. Only thing missing will be a remote...
