iPad 3 connection issue (AT&T) in the UK

Hi. I bought a second hand iPad 3 in the UK that I cannot seem to activate with Vodafone. Even Vodafone are at a loss as to why it does not work.
I decided to jailbreak it with Absinthe and noticed in Cydia at the bottom of the page it say's "iPad 3 (AT&T), iOS 5.1.1, Cydia 1.1.6".

Do I need to inset an AT&T sim card to be able to put in a UK sim card and get it to work? If so can I get one in the UK and would it even work?

The message I get when inserting the Vodafone or any other UK sim at present is
The sim card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported.

Only compatible sim cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iphone.
Please insert the SIM card that came with your İPhone or visit a supported Carrier's store to receivehttp://forum.donanimhaber.com/m_55760600/tm.htm# a replacement SIM card.

Resolved

Scrap that, turns out it is locked to Orange UK. Dunno why it say's AT&T on it!
