John Paczkowski at AllThingsD has a scoop today with the news that Apple will be holding an event in the first week in March to announce the launch of the iPad 3. He says that the event will take place in San Francisco, most likely at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, which is where Apple usually likes to unveil its big guns. Paczkowski says that he does not yet know when the iPad 3 will be released following the announcement, but he expects it to be approximately one week after the launch event, so possibly mid-March. Paczkowski says that according to his sources, much of the recent speculation about the iPad 3 has been right on the money. That is to say, it will look similar to the iPad 2, but have a faster chip, an upgraded graphics processing unit, and a 2048x1536 Retina display, or something very similar.
An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment on Paczkowski’s story, but I think you can pretty much bank on it being accurate with Paczkowski's track record and reputation. Only a month to go until iPad 3 is launched!
