Hi all,

Ipad2
Wifi only

I have had the iPad 2 for 2 months and it has worked fine with my aol email account on my home and public wifi.
Last week I sent an email and received the message
Cannot send mail
A copy has been placed in your outbox. The recipient "[email protected]" was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying.

The message appears whether I send an email from home or elsewhere irrespective of the recipient and to several different ISP's.

I am the only user and have made no changes to the ipad settings that I am aware of.

Do you think the iPad is faulty and should be returned to the apple store for a fix or are there things I should try first?

Thank you.

Same exact error here with two different emails. Just never would send it saying it had a relaying problem. Had nothing to do with an AOL email. Never sent so I had to send from my desktop remember what I had written!

I tried deleting/reinstalling the AOL account but the problem remains. If I email from my pc or llaptop they send ok.
I have added a gmail account to the iPad. That works perfectly.

There are several of us with the exactly the same reported error so please can someone with expertise suggest a fix?

I moved this thread to our Help Section. In the meantime has anyone tried to reset your ipad?

Hold the power button and the home button down at the same time, until you see the Apple logo. Approx 10 seconds or so. Then let it reboot.

See if this helps until others chime in!

I tried that but there is no difference.

I should mention here that my AOL mail sends with no problem from pc's and Macs. This problem only happens on my iPad 2.

I Went to an Apple store today, they checked all the settings and deleted and reinstalled the AOL profile but the problem remains.
They suggested upgrading the operating system to 5 and said if that doesn't fix things I should book an appointment with one of their technical specialists. I will report back here with the result of the iOS 5 installation. They alerted me to the necessity of doing a full backup before attempting the upgrade or all my data will be lost.

I have the exact same problem. Had my ipad2 since August, no problems. This morning has stopped sending emails. My default email is AOL.

I've tried deleting the account and readding, I've plugged it into my laptop to make sure everything is up to date, which it is. And I've rebooted it, but the problem remains ??!!

The problem must be with aol, as I've just sent an email from my hotmail account on my ipad and it has sent. I don't know how we'd put that right though ??!
