AppleInsider reports on the iPad 2’s launch in mainland China today, with the white iPad 2 proving to be much more popular than the black one, according to their informal exit poll, and going by the inventory that was left in the store (see picture). The iPad 2 went on sale at Apple stores in China at 8 a.m. today, with hundreds still queuing outside Apple’s Beijing store by 10 a.m. As usually happens at Apple product launches all over the world, small numbers of customers were let into the store at a time. Overnight queuers were provided with a waiting room and numbered wristbands, just to keep things fair. According to AppleInsider, the scalpers were out in force too, waiting outside the stores and offering iPad 2s for sale for 3888 yuan, just 200 yuan ($30) more than the official retail price. AppleInsider notes that crowds were noticeably bigger than at the launch of the original iPad last year, although this could be due to weather, as it rained a lot last year.
