Lucky drivers in Tennessee are finding that the procedure to renew or replace their driving license has been speeded up by the introduction by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security of 72 iPad kiosks, costing nearly $80,000. Mashable writes that the kiosks have been installed in 26 driver service centers across Tennessee. The kiosks are called ASSETS (automatic self-service electronic terminals) and are mainly located at service centers in the urban areas of Tennessee. If you’re applying to renew or replace your license, you can fill out the relevant forms using the terminals, and also use your debit or credit card to pay for the license. And no waiting for the thing to arrive in the mail, either, as you’ll actually get the license there and then too.

“Reducing the wait time at driver service centers is one of our top priorities,†Commissioner Bill Gibbons told Mashable. “These self-service iPad stations will cut down on the number of customers waiting for service from a driver license examiner and will help reduce the overall wait time for all customers.â€
