The advancement of the iPad as an educational tool continues to gather momentum, with the Illinois Institute of Technology today announcing that it will be providing iPads for all incoming, first-year undergrad students, as part of an initiative to integrate new technologies into the classroom and to promote educational innovation.
The students will be able to use such educational apps as Blackboard Mobile Learn and iTunes University for their coursework, and IIT students and faculty will also be developing their own apps, with the aim of increasing classroom interactivity and collaboration.
“University education is much different today as compared to even 10 years ago,†said IIT Provost Alan Cramb. “Students live in a world where technology is seamlessly integrated into virtually every aspect of their lives, where information and collaboration are available anywhere, anytime. IIT is committed to providing students with the tools and support to thrive in a constantly evolving technological landscape.â€
