I am visiting the USA shortly and would like to buy an Ipad2 with 3G there in order to save myself about £100. Can anyone tell me if I will be able to use the 3G in the UK or are they dedicated to particular carriers such as AT and T or Verizon? Would be most grateful if anyone could answer this for me, thanks

Buy an unsubsidized GSM iPad in the U.S. and you'll be fine. In the U.S., the AT&T ones are GSM.

Yes, you will be fine as long as you purchase the GSM (AT&T) version, not the CDMA (Verizon) version. There are no CDMA carriers in the UK, so you must make sure you get the GSM version (which accepts a micro-SIM card).
