How to convert DVDs or blurry to iPad

Doesn't your Mac have to have a blu Ray drive to read the discs before you can convert????? Or are people using an external blu Ray drive and plugging to the Mac?????

Yes my Mac Pro has a Blue-ray drive. I purchased it from OWC. Their installation instructions made it a relatively easy upgrade.

I use handbrake using the Apple > Universal preset. . Works well.
