Open iTunes, click on iBooks go to File/Add to Library, add your PDF. Go up and click on Books in your Library it should be there, Sync and you're done.

Put the PDF file in a DropBox account. Install the DropBox app. Open the PDF file from DropBox. Then Open in iBooks from there. Very simple. No iTunes required.

Email the PDF file to yourself and collect on the iPad.

Touch the PDF attachment in your received email and you'll be offered a menu item which will open it in iBooks.
