The Daily Telegraph (which is hardly former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s biggest supporter, it has to be said) reveals today that Apple CEO Steve Jobs was being considered for an honorary knighthood by the UK’s Labour government back in 2009. According to the Telegraph, a former senior Labour MP has been spilling the beans, saying that he put forward Jobs for the honour, in tribute to the Apple supremo’s services to technology. Apple was made aware of the impending honour, which was on the verge of being approved, but at the last minute the famously irascible PM Brown made a U-turn, refusing to knight Jobs because he had turned down an invitation to speak at the Labour Party conference.

“Apple has been the only major global company to create stunning consumer products because it has always taken design as the key component of everything it produced,†the former senior MP told the Telegraph. “No other CEO has consistently shown such a commitment.â€

Indeed. Steve doesn't need to be associated with an irrelevant honorific or a second rate politician.

Well, what did he do for Britain?
After all, he lives in the US, he works in the US and his company generates its revenue in the US. He doesn't even have British roots.
So why should he be given a knighthood?
