Very excited!!!!

My 64GB iPad 3 shipped today. Woo Hoo!!!

It's my first ipad. I have a 3GS iphone and a 13" Macbook, an airport extreme and a 15" MBP.

I'm more excited by the iPad than anything since my first iPhone.

One thing I'm not happy about is that the launch event showed location-based features but didn't mention that only the 4G version has a GPS.

I didn't realise, and as I have the iPhone for tethering I bought a wi-fi model.

Can anyone confirm that tethering does allow GPS data to flow to the iPad?

Why not just put a gps app like TomTom on the ipad? Sorry,that was not the question.Gps tethering? Don't know

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

I don't think you can do this, it's one thing to tether to an iPhone to access a wifi hotspot but streaming GPS data to an iPad is another and I can't help you here. Only a 3G or 4G ipad will deliver true GPS capability and you don't even need the sim activated to allow this to function. A wifi iPad can have some success at GPS depending on tower coverage in the area. You could always go back and get a replacement, they have a 14 day window in which you can do this.
