Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Great to have another Aussie on board! Yes you need a 3G model to access full GPS. I've heard it's been really cold in Tassie lately unlike Surfers and Brisbane where it's been sweltering the last few days, although today is very overcast. Enjoy!

I found that in St Helen's, the iPad knows where I am.
Does it get info re where it is from other people's mobile phones?
Or is it just because I get a stronger signal there?
BTW, I am using a Telstra wifi Elite, which gets 4 bars signal here in Falmouth where I am staying @Woolly Butt. The wifi gives me Internet access no worries.

You will have some success from towers that may be nearby for GPS and if this is what's happening have a look and see if you can see any.
