Hi newbie here

Hi to all,
Finding my way around the new iPad, only got it yesterday l had a Motorola Xoom so this seems quite different. Having a big problem setting up my email, although l can send and receive with it l can't seem to get it to do face time, it wants to use my gmail account for that, but l want it to use my regular email. Please can anyone advise what l might be doing wrong.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

So you are talking about your email address and not your mail app here.....

You will need to input your Apple ID email address to activate FaceTime, once it is verified you can then add another Email address. I hope this helps you but if I have misunderstood, let me know.

Thanks for getting back to me. l set up my ipad with my gmail account as l had an ipod touch about 3 years ago and couldn't remember my apple ID so started again with my gmail email. l can Face time with that but all my contacts have my original email address. l am receiving and sending email with both accounts with no problems, but when l go to add my preferred email address to Face time, it keeps saying it is already in use and comes up with an error at the side of it.
l hope you can understand what l am on about, not brilliant in explaining things

So you have 2 Apple ID's and your preferred email is your Apple ID for your iPod? If it is this would be why it won't accept it as its being used on that account. Im thinking you could restore your iPad to as new and then start again using your original ID, but you may run into the same problem with your gmail address as it was registered also as an Apple ID, but then it's your original email that you want to use for FaceTime.
