AppleInsider reports that Google has launched three new standalone iOS apps that enable the user to edit and create Google Docs, Sheets and Slides on their iPhone.
Previously, Google’s Drive app was the only first-party means of accessing Google Docs on your iPhone or iPad, and Google says that it introduced these three new apps because so many customers were asking for them.
“Every year, phones and tablets get better, and more of you are starting to use your mobile devices not just to view, but also to create and edit content,†said Google product manager Brian LeVee in a Google blog post. “And while the Drive app is a convenient place to store your stuff, we want to make it easier for you to quickly find, edit and create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations on the go.â€
As AppleInsider notes, Google may also have been prompted to launch these new apps by the arrival of Microsoft Office 365 for iPad, which left Google Docs trailing behind both Office and Apple’s iWork suite as a choice for those users who want to edit documents on the go.
Docs and Sheets are both available now for free from the app store, and Slides will be available very soon.
