Getting movies on to my ipad2

Can anyone tell me the steps of how to get movies from my mac on to my ipad? I am a newbie with the ipad,any assistance is appreciated.

Right click on the movie file and choose get info.
Under preferences choose iTunes as default player/opener.

Simply opening the file at that point auto adds it to iTunes and ??syncable?? To your iPad

This is assuming it's in a .m4v or .mov file format

I currently use vlc media player addin for handbrake on my Mac Mini to convert my DVDs to iPad......
