Last week saw a new dawn for one of Apple’s most prized devices: the iPad. At the iPad mini event, Cupertino also unveiled an enhanced 4th generation iPad that caught a lot of people off guard. Primate Labs didn’t waste any time and uncovered some fresh information about the device. The tablet is a lot more powerful than its predecessor – the iPad 3.

A set of benchmark tests were reportedly performed on the devices and the results are in. The fourth generation iPad apparently sports an A6X processor and when compared to the performance of its predecessor it outperformed it with more than 200 points.

The fourth gen iPad is faster and more powerful memory wise as it scored 1757 in the processor speed department. The tests performed via the Geekbench application revealed that the new tablet comes packing a 1.4GHz processor and 1GB of RAM. The same can be found in the third gen iPad and the newest iPhone.

Primate Labs also compared the current iPad with other Apple models. Surprisingly, the result shows us that the new tablet is 10% faster than the new iPhone 5 and twice as fast as the previous iPad and iPad 2 (no shocker there).

Users in need of a faster tablet that features a FaceTime HD camera or faster Wi-Fi will probably flock to get the new iPad 4.
