Deleting photo ?

Love my ipad2 !!!
Small problem in photos
When I pick a thumbnail and the ck symbol appears on the thumb, I press the delete in the upper tool bar but it won't delet the pic. I have tried just 1 pic and several pics.the ck. Marks show on the thumbnails but none will delete.
Am I missing a setting ( I hope ) or is something wrong with photos app. ?

are these photos you sync via itunes? if yes, then you couldnt delete them on ipad. you have to delete them on itunes. and the only pics you can delete on ipad are the one ones you save while using ipad.
