Copying text from PDFs and journal articles

Hello

I've been seriously thinking about buying an iPad Air for reading PDFs, mainly academic journal articles. This will also involve copying some sentences from the PDF & exporting the selections. I'm aware of apps such as iAnnotate and Goodreader (though haven't used them).

  • How well do these kinds of apps copy PDF text and how easy is to export it as a text file?
  • When copying/exporting, for each line of text are there end-of-line returns?
  • Are some words garbled or squashed together without spaces (e.g. thiswas the same personwho we...)?
I've copied PDF text on PCs and sometimes these issues occur, so you can end up spending a lot of time correcting the copied text.

thanks for any advice

Not any better than doing the same activities on a PC, IME. I read techncial articles full of equations and there is always a lot of editing to do after the fact, even more so for equations. Some journals are going to HTML, too, so you have options, possibly.
