In Apple's Numbers for iPad...is it possible to have automatic serial numbers in first column? so essentially when i input some data in second column the associated first column would populate row number automatically.

There is no easy way, but you could probably create a formula that would test the first cell, then display something if the cell contained a non-zero value. To get serial number you woul need to calculate it based on cell position or the value in the previous cell or grab it from another table of pre-created numbers.

That is all I can think of at the moment.

it will be automatic if you program the first column... using a combination of the if() function, and the A1+1 formula copied downwards.
