Can't authorize computer in iTunes

I've looked around quite a bit today on this, but haven't found an answer. Almost all of the searches turn up mostly "I can't play my iTunes". This is not type of problem.

I am trying to authorize my computer in iTunes. I've got the latest version. Every time I try, I get the error "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again." That happens immediately after I enter my ID and password, and I know they are both being entered correctly. I'm not exactly sure why the network connection would time out after just a couple of seconds.

I've even gone through another try at fixing this where someone said to disable the iTunes Store and enable iTunes U (or whatever it is), then go back and enable the store again. That didn't help either.

If it makes any difference, I'm running this on a PC.

Here is the diagnostics result (omitting the CD/DVD part since I'm not worried about that at the moment):

Hi there,
I had this problem, and searching google so have many others. changing my internet Explorer settings worked for me (see below), even though I use Chrome :). (even though diagnoses said i was not using a proxy).

Open internet explorer. Must be internet explorer not firefox not mozilla not what ever else you use!
Click Tools
Internet options
then click on the connections tab
then at the bottom of that window click LAN SETTINGS
Make sure proxy setting is unchecked on this screen.

Hope this helps.

Well, I gave this a try, but it didn't work. Proxies weren't checked to begin with, so just for gits and shiggles I checked the proxy box, quit IE, tried to authorize again. No luck. Started IE back up again, unchecked the proxy box, quit IE, tried to authorize again. Still no luck. I even went into Firefox and checked that. It had the "use system proxy settings" checked, so I shut that off, quit Firefox, tried to authorize, still no luck.

Do you have a firewall? Try turning that off briefly, long enough to see if you can get the authorization. Don't forget to turn it back on.

Having the exact same problem as described above. Firewall not the issue. iTunes works fine. Internet connection works fine. Can't authorize computer because it comes back with "Network connection timed out." Very annoying.
